Make the Call for
Polar Bear Homes

Polar Bear Cubs (USFWS)

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a national treasure -- and one of the most important onshore denning habitats for America's remaining polar bears.

Call President Obama today and urge him to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Help Save Polar Bears and Other Wildlife

Dear Wildlife Supporter,

Right now, a polar bear mother is preparing her den in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- one of the most important onshore denning habitats for America's struggling polar bears. When she emerges next spring, she will rear her cubs in one of America's most spectacular landscapes.

But Big Oil wants to get its hands on this special place. And if it does, disruptive exploration and drilling could drive polar bears mothers to abandon their cubs, leaving them to starve to death.

Please call President Obama today at (202) 456-1414 and deliver this simple message:

My name is YOUR Friend of Defenders and I'm calling from YOUR STATE to urge you to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas development. The Arctic Refuge is a unique national treasure that is one of the most important onshore denning habitats for our struggling polar bears. It is also home to one of America's largest caribou herds, arctic foxes and millions of migratory birds. Please do all you can to protect this fragile and special place.

Important: Please let us know that you called. We will be closely tracking the number of calls in order to ensure that all our voices are heard on this important issue.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- and to celebrate, thousands of people from across the country are calling on President Obama to permanently protect this unique national treasure and the wildlife that depend on it to survive.

Join the fight. Make your call for the Arctic right now.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is important not only for our struggling polar bears, but also for millions of migratory birds and one of America's largest caribou herds. It's a special place that's home to wolves, arctic foxes and a diverse array of other wildlife.

Just one call could help protect this special place forever.

Please call President Obama today to urge him to permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge -- and let us know you called.

Save the Owl's
Wetlands
Save the Owl's Wetlands
Take Action!

Hi Anne,

Pot Plant Owl is the name given to the owl who has been nesting in a potted plant outside a home in South Africa for the past three years.

She and many other animals depend on the nearby wetland to survive and feed her owlets.

Unfortunately, the wetland is being threatened with development.

Tell South Africa to save their wetlands.»

One Care2 member has started a petition to urge the South African government to keep their word about preserving the wetlands.

Below is a message from the petition author:
A 30 hectare 'Greenbelt' stands surrounded by houses and apartment complexes in a suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. 76% of the greenbelt is a delineated Wetland with a permanent stream, a grassland and a small forest.

The Wattle Forest has been cut down, erosion is attacking the river banks and a construction site with bulldozers waits in anticipation of a new housing development.

This wetland is special. A pair of owls are nesting on the balcony of a house adjacent to it, forced there by loss of habitat. They are currently raising 3 chicks and are dependent on the wetland--this is where they hunt.

You can even <" style="font-weight:bold;color: #1B8ABE;">see the nesting owls on webcam. Destruction of wetlands is happening all over South Africa, and around the world - it is time to Take a Stand.

Please help save the wetland.»
Thank you for making a difference.

Sincerely,

Laura

Urge Congress to Act for Struggling Wildlife

Sea Otter, Lion, Loggerhead Turtle, Whooping Crane (Photo: FWS)

Congress has a chance this year to lend a hand to sea otters, lions, cranes and other wildlife struggling to survive -- but time is running out.

Take Action to Save Imperiled Wildlife

Urge your senators and representative to pass a wildlife, lands and water package that will help some of our most vulnerable animals survive.

Dear Wildlife Supporter,

What the 111th Congress does in its closing days will have big implications for sea otters, lions, sea turtles and other wildlife struggling to survive.

Take action now. Urge your senators and representative to pass a wildlife, lands and water package that will help some of our most vulnerable wildlife survive.

This is our last chance to pass a critical package of bills that includes:

  • The Southern Sea Otter Recovery and Research Act: Provides vital funding for research and recovery efforts to save the struggling southern sea otter.
  • The Great Cats and Rare Canids Act: Authorizes critical funds for vital efforts to protect lions and rare animals like snow leopards, Ethiopian wolves, jaguars and other imperiled wildlife struggling to survive.
  • The Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act: Ensures resources to conserve five billion birds that migrate between the North and Central America -- including some of the rarest birds on the continent.
  • The Marine Turtle Conservation Reauthorization Act: Makes resources available to protect sea turtles and the places they need to survive -- more important than ever after the deadly impacts of BP's Deepwater Horizon oil disaster.
  • The Crane Conservation Act: Provides resources to protect the most endangered family of birds in the world, including the North American whooping crane -- the rarest of all cranes.

Since an anti-conservation majority takes over in the House next Congress, this is our last chance for the foreseeable future to pass these important bills -- many of which have been waiting for years to pass.

Act now: urge your senators and representative to support a legislative package this year that will help our struggling wildlife.

The last days of the 111th Congress will quickly fade away -- but you can help make sure they do the right thing for our wildlife and wild places before they leave. Please take action today.

Robert Dewey
Sincerely,

Robert Dewey

Dear Wildlife Supporter ,

This year's Deepwater Horizon oil explosion was the worst offshore oil disaster in U.S. history.
It killed 11 people, at least 6,000 birds, 600 threatened or endangered sea turtles and countless other species.

It has decimated the local fishing industry. And its impacts will be felt for decades on beaches, national wildlife refuges and other sensitive ecosystems in states around the Gulf.

Despite the catastrophic impacts of this disaster, Congress has so far failed to act to prevent the next awful oil disaster.

Time is running out for Congress to act. Urge your representative and senators to pass the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act before Congress adjourns for the year.

Friend , we need 16 messages in support of oil spill prevention legislation from your county before Friday to meet our 50,000 message goal. Please take action now.

It is high time for Congress to pass the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act, legislation that would:

  • Ensure a major restoration effort and funding for Gulf Coast communities and ecosystems;
  • Protect oil rig workers with stronger safety standards;
  • Stop the rubber-stamping of industry plans;
  • Require greatly improved oil spill response capacity; and
  • Eliminate liability caps for oil spill damages, so taxpayers aren't stuck with the bill for disasters like the Deepwater Horizon oil explosion.

Big Oil clearly wants to delay action on this vital issue until the next Congress. They are counting on more pro-oil, anti-wildlife members to derail real reform and are counting on America forgetting the terrible tragedy that still afflicts the Gulf, its economy and its wildlife.

With Congress set to adjourn for the year in just a few weeks, time is running out to pass legislation to protect our sea turtles, birds and other wildlife from the next offshore oil tragedy.

Please take action now. Write your representative and senators today.

Thanks for taking the time to make a difference.

A CAMPANHA CONTINUA!

O projeto do sr.
