Does Your Pet Store Sell Puppies?

Help Us Fight Puppy Mills

As an ASPCA supporter, we know you want to see an end to puppy mills, and you probably know that most dogs sold at pet stores come from puppy mills. Unfortunately, most people don’t know that buying a puppy at a pet store, or online, supports the puppy mill industry. That’s why we need your help.

Today, you have a special opportunity to help get us one step closer to ending puppy mills! Please take a moment to let us know about pet stores in your area that sell puppies. As part of an exciting new ASPCA campaign to end puppy mills, we’ll share this information with people across the country and ask them to pledge not to shop at pet stores that sell dogs. If pet parents stop shopping at stores that sell dogs, store owners will stop selling dogs!

Please visit nopetstorepuppies.com and log in with Username: puppy and Password: pledge. That’s where you can enter information about your local pet stores.

As always, thank you for helping us in our efforts to fight animal cruelty. We couldn’t do it without you.

PETA - Expose Abuse. Rescue Animals. Investigations & Rescue Fund. What if investigating animal abuse were illegal?
Nudge - Nudge was rescued from an animal hoarder as the result of a recent PETA undercover investigation. But if pending legislation in Iowa and other states becomes law and spreads as it threatens to, there may be no relief for abused animals like her. Join PETA's Investigations & Rescue Fund! Dear Anne,

An undercover investigation helped saved Nudge's life.

For six months, a PETA investigator documented widespread abuse and neglect at a South Carolina "sanctuary." In February, soon after our shocking investigation was made public, a judge ordered some 240 cats housed in filthy conditions at the facility to be seized and given the veterinary care that they needed. Nudge was one of those cats.

But imagine if Nudge and the other animals had never been seized—not because they were fine and dandy but because the abuse could not be investigated. Right now, state legislators in the U.S. are considering such a ban on PETA's ability to get the goods on cruel operations that abuse animals. Legislators are working to enact new laws that could prevent undercover investigations like this one from ever happening—and potentially put undercover investigators like PETA's behind bars!

PETA's painstakingly difficult undercover investigative work is one the most important aspect of our efforts in behalf of victimized animals. We've set up a special program, the Investigations & Rescue Fund, to allow our dedicated members to support this work with a monthly gift.

Please join this fight. Help us make more rescues like Nudge's possible by becoming a monthly supporter of PETA's Investigations & Rescue Fund right now.

From Florida to Iowa to Minnesota, lawmakers have spent recent weeks debating so-called "anti-filming laws." These cunning bills are being sold under the guise of preventing anyone from "interfering with an animal facility or crop operation," yet they have little to nothing to do with protecting either animals or workers. That is evident by the fact that the bills are strongly supported by some of the same industries—including operators of factory farms, puppy mills, and animal testing laboratories—responsible for many of the horrifying abuses of animals that PETA undercover investigators have exposed many times, forcing operators to change practices, spend money, and fire workers.

For example, Iowa is the largest pork-producing state in the nation, and its factory farms are no stranger to cruelty-to-animals exposés. In 2008, a PETA undercover investigation of an Iowa factory farm that supplied pigs to Hormel Foods revealed that workers were beating pigs with metal rods, sexually abusing them with canes, and more. This case was so shocking that even pork industry officials had to publicly condemn the abuse, and the investigation eventually lead to the state's first-ever convictions for abuse or neglect of factory-farmed pigs.

But if these new bills are enacted, investigators seeking to expose abuses like those we documented on that Iowa farm could face arrest, stiff fines, and even jail time, and their evidence of wrongdoing would never see the light of day. These laws are designed to shroud animal abuse in secrecy and hide from the public the horrors that animals are subjected to behind the closed doors of factory farms and similar facilities.

By becoming a monthly supporter of PETA's Investigations & Rescue Fund today, you'll provide us with the reliable resources that we need to continue our groundbreaking undercover investigative work—even when faced with these new legislative challenges. Your Investigations & Rescue Fund gift will be charged at the same time each month, and you can change or cancel your donation at any time.

For the sake animals like Nudge—who would no doubt still be suffering were it not for PETA investigators—please support the Investigations & Rescue Fund with your gift right now.

Kind regards,
signature
Ingrid E. Newkirk
President

P.S. We need your help to stand up to attempts to hide animal abuse behind "anti-filming" legislation. Won't you support our work to expose—and stop—animal abuse wherever and whenever it occurs by becoming a monthly Investigations & Rescue Fund donor today?

Miele — Estou editando a coleção.

End Harmful Taxpayer Handouts for Big Oil

Billions in taxpayer-funded oil subsidies are used to drill in the homes of endangered sea turtles, threatened polar bears and other wildlife.

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund ad targeting Senator Brown

Help us reach our goal of $30,000 by Monday, May 16th to run this hard-hitting ad, win a key vote to end wasteful taxpayer handouts to Big Oil and give wildlife a voice in Washington, DC.

Dear Wildlife Supporter,

Using your tax dollars to attack wildlife: That's what Big Oil is doing. They're using billions in taxpayer handouts to invade the homes of endangered sea turtles, threatened polar bears and other wildlife struggling to survive.

Now the Senate is poised to put an end to taxpayer subsidies that are used to harm our wildlife -- and Defenders Action Fund is launching an ad campaign to help pass this vital bill.

Please donate today to help us run our ad to stop Big Oil handouts that harm our polar bears, sea turtles and other wildlife.

Over the last decade, Big Oil's top five companies have raked in more than $900 billion in profits.1 Yet these companies still receive billions of dollars in taxpayer handouts each year.2 And over the past five years, Big Oil has spent hundreds of millions of dollars to lobby for more harmful drilling that puts our wildlife in danger.3

In a time of record deficits, using your tax dollars to prop up profitable polluters just doesn't make sense -- especially when they put our wildlife and wild places at risk.

Help us reach our goal of $30,000 by Monday, May 16th to run our hard-hitting ad, win a critical vote to end wasteful taxpayer handouts to Big Oil and provide wildlife with a key voice in Washington, DC.

If we can get the right ad in front of the right people, we can help affect the outcome of this vote. That's why our ad will target Senator Scott Brown (MA) -- a critical vote in the battle to eliminate these wasteful Big Oil handouts.

Wildlife Supporter, we don't have much time to get our ad up and running. The Senate vote on eliminating these harmful subsidies could come as early as next Tuesday. That's why our strategic campaign needs your immediate help.

We need to get our ads in front of Senator Brown and his constituents as soon as possible. Will you be a part of this campaign?

Sea turtles, dolphins and other Gulf Coast wildlife are still feeling the effects of last year's BP drilling disaster. Yet Big Oil still gets your tax dollars for more risky drilling in the Gulf.

America's polar bears are struggling to survive -- with biologists predicting they could disappear in just a few short decades. But Big Oil still gets your tax dollars to drill in key polar bear habitat.

You can help end taxpayer handouts that harm our wildlife and wild places. Help us run our hard-hitting ad to win this key vote.

elephant TaiElephant Featured In "Water For Elephants" Abused During Training

Recently released video shows shocking scenes of elephant abuse by the owner and a trainer at Have Trunk Will Travel, a company that hires out elephants for films, TV, print and rides. In the video, elephants are “trained” with electric shock devices and struck with steel bullhooks, and a baby elephant is cruelly hooked in the mouth.

One of the abuse victims shown in the video is Tai, who screams after being shocked with a powerful hand-held electric device. She appears in the recently released film Water for Elephants, in which she undergoes a vicious staged “beating.” The public was repeatedly and falsely assured that Tai was never mistreated. Click here to read more, see the video, and send an e-mail to those involved in the production of Water for Elephants, urging them to never again participate in productions that use wild animals.

IDA and the Animal Protection and Rescue League (APRL) have a long-standing partnership in the fight against force-feeding of ducks and geese to make foie gras. Foie gras is the diseased liver of ducks and geese created by forcing a wide tube down the birds throats and gouging their livers to up to ten times their normal size. Here are some victories and updates from across the country where activists are working hard to save ducks and geese from this terrifying and painful experience.

PigFlorida Victory On "Ag-Gag" Bill

A Florida bill that would have made it illegal to film and/or photograph animals on farms without the owner’s permission failed in the Florida House. This so-called “ag-gag” bill was a violation of free speech rights and an attack on brave activists who risk their personal safety to expose the horrible cruelty of factory farms.

IDA thanks Florida lawmakers for making the compassionate choice to kill this bill. Hopefully now the focus can be put back on the true criminals - the animal abusers. If you live in Florida, please take a moment to thank your representatives for not supporting this controversial and unfair bill.

Unfortunately, animals are still under attack in Iowa and Minnesota, where legislators are still considering bills that would subject whistleblowers to criminal prosecution. This appalling attack on caring, courageous people was addressed in this New York Times editorial.
