| Help Chimpanzees In Laboratories
The United States is one of the last countries to experiment on chimpanzees. A decade ago, Belgium, Sweden, Austria, New Zealand and others began banning great ape experimentation. Modern, more humane, and far more effective methods have been developed. Please click here to read about some of the chimpanzees IDA is working to help today. You can help them too. | | Promote Vegan Pizza For World Go Vegan Week
World Go Vegan Week (October 24 - 31) is a celebration of compassion and a time to take action for animals, the environment, world hunger, and everyone's well-being. This year is going to be extra special … and extra cheesy! Please go to your local pizza shop and ask if they would offer a vegan pizza for the week of World Go Vegan Week. We are partnering with Daiya cheese, and they have offered to provide a free vegan cheese sample for the pizza shop to try. We will provide you with a letter and tips on how to approach the pizzerias. Remember, all it takes is one person to make a major difference in changing everyday restaurants into vegan-friendly havens. Click here to learn more. A rescue transport coordinated by IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary in Mississippi reached Ft. Lupton, Colorado Tuesday with 119 homeless animals available for adoption - 113 dogs and 6 cats. IDA has partnered with Every Creature Counts (ECC) in Colorado for three years to relocate animals from the Mississippi region, where there are low adoption rates, to an area where spay/neuter programs and policies have reduced the euthanasia of shelter animals and increased adoption rates.
The director of IDA’s Hope Animal Sanctuary, Doll Stanley, who drove the transport vehicle, said: “There’s little hope for adoption of the animals we rescue in Mississippi. People who want animals don’t have to adopt, they just take in the animals who wander to their homes. Many municipalities and counties have no animal shelter, spay/neuter programs are just emerging, and people abandon their animals instead of getting them spayed or neutered.”
This transport cost IDA and our partners nearly $5,000. The cost of rescue, care, medicines, vaccines, and medical procedures for these animals, while greatly reduced by Veterinary Associates of Grenada, Mississippi and offset by Mississippi State University’s student surgery program, has cost IDA and partners an average of $500 per animal, or $60,000.
