Take Action to Protect the World's Oceans
Dear Anne,

Save seals from Shell's oil drills

Tell President Obama to keep oil drills out of seals' homes»
Two years ago oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico, and today we are still discovering sick dolphins and damaged habitats. Seals in the Arctic could be next – unless you speak up to save them.
Drilling in the Arctic puts animals like seals at risk. If a seal has to swim through oil, its fur could lose its insulation causing it to freeze to death. Surfacing for air in icy waters clogged with oil could result in a lungful of toxic fumes instead. Seals are built to survive harsh weather and cold seas – but they're not built for oil.
But you can help save these seals. Tell President Obama to make the right decision and protect the Arctic»
Shell is sending ships to the Arctic right now to prepare for drilling this summer. We learned from the Gulf that we aren't prepared for an oil spill anywhere – and we're especially not prepared for one in the icy north. Shell says that they can contain a spill, but the technology simply isn't there.
The Gulf of Mexico spill took place in mild weather and had easy access to cleanup crews, and it still took months to contain. A similar spill in the Arctic would be an unimaginable disaster. Even a minor spill will cause injury and death to seals and whales.
Drilling in the Arctic just isn't safe. Shell can't contain an oil spill there – no one can. That's why we're asking you to call on President Obama to call off the drills. There's not much time left to stop Shell from setting up their drills and putting seals at risk.
Tell President Obama to turn back the drills before it's too late»
We're joining other groups in an effort to get one million people to ask Obama to protect the Arctic. Add your voice – together we can make ourselves heard.
