International Day of Action for Elephants in Zoos June 11, 2011 The Elephants Need Your Help! “Elephants were never meant to be confined in zoos, where they are suffering and dying prematurely. Please help me share this important message by participating in the International Day of Action for Elephants in Zoos on June 11, a unique event that brings the world together to stop the suffering of elephants in zoos.” – Actress and activist Lily Tomlin Join In Defense of Animals (IDA) and elephant advocates around the globe for the International Day of Action for Elephants in Zoos (IDAEZ) on Saturday, June 11, and help us send a message to the world that it’s time to end the suffering of elephants in zoos. Scientific studies have documented what IDA has been saying all along: zoo conditions have a profound effect on the lives of elephants, drastically shortening their life spans. Lack of space and unnatural conditions lead to a range of problems, including painful foot disease and arthritis, the leading causes of death for elephants in captivity. Please check our events list to see if anything is planned at the zoo in your area. If you don’t see your zoo listed, we can help you organize an event and will alert people in your area so they can attend. Organizing an event is easy! IDA will supply the flyers, posters and everything you need to make your event a success.
