Support IDA's Animal Disaster Relief Fund Help The Animal Victims Of The Floods In Brazil And Australia, And Other Disasters In Defense of Animals has played a vital role in relief efforts following many natural disasters, from the Oakland, California firestorms in 1991, to responding to the Hurricane Katrina aftermath in 2005, and, most recently, during the earthquakes of Haiti and Chile in 2010. And now catastrophic flooding in Queensland, Australia, where it is believed that the largest toll on animals, wildlife and local communities in the country’s history has taken place. It's being referred to as "Australia's Katrina." At the same time, Brazil is being hit by ongoing floods and mudslides, and IDA is responding as best we can. Please click here now to see how you can help! In Australia, The RSPCA’s main facility in Fairfield was severely engulfed by the recent floods, but quick acting staff ensured all animals were safely and swiftly evacuated before their kennels, catteries and pastures became engulfed by water. A sea of animals are still lost, separated from their guardians, waiting to be fed, treated and cared for. IDA is rushing aid to the RSPCA Queensland, which has the responsibility to rescue and care for all the state’s animals, including companion, farmed, and wild animals. IDA’s support to the RSPCA Queensland after these devastating floods will help rebuild their vet clinic, replace surgical equipment, carry out search and rescue operations, provide much needed veterinary care and reunite animals with their loving guardians. In Brazil, catastrophic floods in Sao Paulo and mudslides near Rio de Janeiro are linked to more than 700 human deaths so far. Communities throughout the mountains and hills that surround Rio de Janeiro are virtually unrecognizable amid the mud-covered streets, collapsed houses, buildings, and washed out roads. Many residents were forced to leave their animals behind, most of whom are likely dead, lost, or orphaned. As emergency crews search for survivors in the flooded streets and mud-covered hillsides, they have reported a grim scene in many affected areas: many dead or dying dogs, cats and horses. IDA and our allies are sending a response team, which will be funded by your donations, and working with local groups in Brazil. Please click here to support this effort. Thank you! When disaster strikes impacting animals and local communities, IDA is there to help immediately where we can and when we can. And it is your donations to IDA’s Animal Disaster Relief Fund that allow us to act quickly wherever and whenever we can. Help us act now and in future disasters. If you'd like to donate to this fund today, click here to make your tax-deductible gift using our secure online form. Please contribute as generously as you can.
