Project a Thundering Success

Dear Anne,

Each morning, our field crew would wake before dawn and spend hours saving prairie dogs, adopting the slogan “leave no prairie dog behind.” By the end of the summer, the crew operated much like a prairie dog coterie. They worked together, played together, looked out for one another -- and are now advocates for the prairie dog.

The 550 prairie dogs we saved, meanwhile, built new burrows and are now roaming free on the prairie, safe from death by poisoning.

The Thunder Basin National Grassland relocation paved the way for many future projects and placed non-lethal prairie dog management on the top of the toolbox for federal agencies. Please watch our video to learn more.
