Dear Anne,

While many of us are enjoying summer weather with family and friends, one of the world's cruelest industries is preparing for another winter.

As I write this, hundreds of thousands of individual rabbits, dogs, cats, and other animals are confined to cramped cages in China awaiting a violent death at the hands of the bloody fur trade.

With your help, we can change that.

In newly released undercover footage of the Chinese fur trade, PETA has revealed the kind of misery that goes into every fur coat or piece of fur trim. The investigator witnessed terrified animals who were hung upside down by one leg and repeatedly struck in the head with a metal pipe. One young rabbit was still conscious as his skin was violently ripped from his body. Bloody and in agony, he was cast aside to die from his wounds as another animal was pulled from her cage to be slaughtered.

China has no laws governing how animals are treated by the fur industry, meaning that everything the investigator documented—including things that were done to cats and dogs that would have likely landed the perpetrators in jail had they occurred in the U.S.—are completely legal there.

As horrific as the situation is, there are a few signs of hope for these animals. Thanks in part to the work of PETA Asia, China is now considering a bill that, if passed, will become the country's first animal protection law. But it will take more than a new law to stop the suffering of animals on Chinese fur farms. It will take a monumental effort to continue educating consumers, designers, and retailers about the skin trade and to end the abuse of animals who are killed for their skins.

By supporting PETA today, you'll be standing up to a bloody industry and helping PETA's crucial work to put an end to all animal suffering.

Thank you for supporting this vital campaign and for all that you do to make the world a more compassionate place for all animals.

Kind regards,
Ingrid Newkirk

P.S. PETA donors make it possible to conduct undercover investigations, convince retailers and designers to adopt permanent fur-free policies, and let people know that an animal is worth more than the value of his or her fur. And the heartbreaking images of cruelty in our new video show why we have to keep this fight going strong. Please donate online now.
