Save America's Wolves

Terrible Setback for Lobos
Southwest Wolf (FWS)

Just days ago, yet another lobo was confirmed killed by poachers. Criminal wolf-killers are taking their toll on Southwest wolves -- the rarest wolves in the world.

Please take action today to help these struggling wolves survive: urge federal officials to increase law enforcement resources and fast-track a science-based and effective recovery plan for lobos.

These wolves need as much help as they can get -- please forward this message on to others who care about wildlife.

Dear Wildlife Supporter,

At last count, there were only 42 Mexican wolves left in the wilds of Arizona and New Mexico -- making lobos the most endangered wolves in the world.

But recently, two alpha male lobos were killed and another is missing.

And just days ago, yet another lobo was confirmed killed -- the latest victim of poachers in the Southwest.

Please take action now and urge federal officials to devote more law enforcement resources to help catch the criminal poachers that are killing our lobos and to save the lives of endangered wolves in the American Southwest.

More than 30 lobos have been ruthlessly killed by poachers in recent years.

But limited resources continue to hamper efforts by law enforcement officials to catch these wolf killers. Only two poachers have ever been prosecuted even though poaching remains the leading cause of death among Mexican wolves.

Please take action today to help these struggling wolves survive: urge federal officials to increase law enforcement resources and fast-track an effective, science-based recovery plan for lobos.

Thanks in part to Defenders supporters, we have contributed to a reward fund totaling more than $57,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for these illegal killings.

But the situation for lobos is grave. These wolves remain on the brink of extinction due to criminal poaching of wolves and a vocal anti-wolf minority that has prevented reasonable management efforts to save these important animals.

Please help lobos survive -- take action today.

Eva Sargent, Southwest Program Director
Sincerely,
