January 12, 2012   IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary Rescues Starving Horses IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary has completed yet another rescue - this time, fifteen starving horses and a mule. Concerned Mississippi residents tried for months to help these horses, to no avail. IDA was called in just in time to save these fifteen, but too late for others - authorities found five dead horses and four sets of skeletal remains. Help Connecticut Cow Wanda Get To A Sanctuary  In July 2011, an Angus calf escaped from a beef farm into the woods of Milford, Connecticut. Mistakenly thought to be a bull, she was named Waldo in tribute to her elusiveness. The calf took to roaming and grazing with a herd of deer, who managed to warn Waldo of a looming capture threat by Milford Animal Control Officers. Farm Sanctuary in New York offered to capture the calf and provide a safe, permanent home. Their calls were never returned, but the Animal Control Officer (ACO) for Milford was quoted in the media as saying the calf would be sent to a sanctuary when caught, and animal lovers breathed a sigh of relief. But now, Wanda (her name was changed when she was found to be female) has been captured and sent to another commercial farm, instead of a sanctuary. Fur Flies Over Duran Duran Video  Duran Duran's glamorization of fur and other animal skins in their latest video "Girl Panic" has sparked an internet uproar. The video features five former supermodels clad in real fur, snakeskin, goat hair, feathers and leather. Hundreds of fans have shared their thoughts on IDA's blog, cross-posted the story, and contacted the band on Facebook, Twitter and by email. Duran Duran has not yet replied to our request for a statement agreeing to not use fur in the future. Please add your name and comment to our blog and politely contact Duran Duran. At our blog you can also find contact links for Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, and Yasmin Le Bon, three of the un-supermodels wearing parts of dead animals in the video.
