KivaIDA To The Rescue For "Service Dog" Kiva And Her Guardian Mary

The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requires businesses to allow people with disabilities to bring service animals onto the premises. So when Mary, a paraplegic and guardian of a service dog named Kiva, entered a rehabilitation facility to recover from serious injuries, she expected Kiva to accompany her. Unfortunately, her long-time companion was refused entry. Poor Kiva was instead sent to a shelter. When Mary called In Defense of Animals (IDA) for help, the distress in her voice was heartwrenching. Click here to see how IDA came to the rescue!

South Korean dog market, Seoul TimesThose Who Harm Animals Don't Take The Holidays Off

And neither do we! That's why we hope you will continue to help us fight against those who deprive animals of a decent life.

Please add IDA, and the animals we serve, to your gift list this holiday season. With your gift, we will make a huge difference for animals by establishing relationships in South Korea with government ministries and continuing our work to ban dog meat; working to end chimpanzee experimentation and all vivisection once and for all; expanding our efforts on behalf of elephants in zoos and circuses; fighting for the freedom of America's wild horses; and increasing the life-saving work of IDA Africa, IDA India, and IDA's Hope Animal Sanctuary. And we are escalating our campaigns to end the horrors of factory farming and other industries that exploit, mutilate, torture, and kill the animals who share our planet.

Please donate:With your ongoing support, we are confident that a better future is in store for more and more of our animal friends - a world where our fellow beings will be treated as more than property, objects, or things - a world in which they will be treated responsibly and respectfully.

Are you thinking about going vegan? Are you curious about a particular vitamin, nutrient, or food? Do you want to get the most nutrition from your plant-based diet? Submit your vegan health question and maybe you'll see it answered in an upcoming IDA eNews.

Chimp_Laboratory2_jpgPlease Post Comments: Colorado Newspaper Prints Great Editorial Opposing Chimpanzee Experiments

IDA has long advocated for a ban on the use of chimpanzees in invasive experiments. The Daily Camera in Boulder, Colorado published an editorial in support of the ban, and we ask that you please post comments. Here's how it begins: "Every once in a while, when you're the last man standing on an issue all of your peers have taken a moral stand on, it's not a bad idea to take a look to see if you're on the right side. ... There are currently just two countries that conduct invasive scientific or medical research on our closest relative, the chimpanzee. Gabon is one. The United States is the other." Read the rest of the editorial here, then post your own thoughts. Thank you!

Fur Free Friday, San Francisco, 2011Thank You For Making Fur Free Friday 2011 A Huge Success!

Fur Free Friday 2011 was a rousing success with cities around the globe participating in this world-famous day of action. Activists took time from holiday plans to speak out for millions of innocent animals slaughtered for their fur. In San Francisco, IDA members and others staged a powerful visual display of human bodies in bloody body suits piled on top of each other, with bloody furs all around them simulating animals brutally killed and skinned for their fur. In New York, shoppers saw big-screen video of fur farms. Check out photos from Fur Free Friday demos around the world, and keep the momentum going throughout the "fur season" - the animals need your voice!
