Shark Fin Ban Sweeps West Coast This month, California Governor Jerry Brown signed California's ban on the possession and trade of shark fins. The ban will come into effect in January and, along with similar bans in Oregon and Washington, keeps shark fins out of the entire West Coast. At a discussion held by the Chilean Senate's Fisheries Committee, Oceana staff argued in favor of banning trawling on Chile's 118 seamounts, which we proposed in 2009.
