But right now, the government of Belize is poised to give oil companies the right to explore for oil using noisy techniques that can interfere with these mother-calf communications—and can even kill dolphins and other marine animals. Oceana is fighting to put a national referendum in place that would let the people of Belize protect their dolphins and coral reefs from offshore oil exploration and drilling. But we can't do it without your help. Unless we act now to stop them, they will soon begin using deafening seismic testing and air guns in the search for oil – this could be devastating to the dolphin pods who call the reef home. Oceana is leading a nationwide campaign to put the decision back in the hands of Belize's citizens – and help them pass a referendum that would stop offshore drilling for good.
