Dog rescued in Brazil by IDA-Kinship Circle teamIDA And Kinship Circle Deploy Disaster Response Team In Brazil

With thirty years combined animal disaster relief experience, In Defense of Animals and Kinship Circle have formed a partnership to respond to Brazil’s floods and mudslides. An IDA-Kinship Circle team in Brazil is providing search and rescue services, veterinary treatment, including spaying and neutering, and other needed assistance. The goal, as in the aftermath of the 2010 Chile earthquake and tsunami, is to work within the structure of Brazilian agencies and bring together human, technical, and material resources. Click here to see photos, to learn details about our response to the Brazil disaster, and how you can help.

Rescue elephant Nosey from her chains!Tell USDA: Stop Stalling! Rescue Elephant Nosey From Circus Now!

IDA has filed complaint after complaint with the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), urging action to save a 29-year-old African elephant named Nosey from a miserable life with the Liebel Family Circus, but the USDA has shown no heart for Nosey and no inclination to fully enforce animal welfare law.

For years, the USDA has repeatedly cited Nosey’s handler, Hugo Liebel, for the same violations of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) – yet it’s business as usual for Liebel. Nosey continues to be transported around the country, jammed into a tiny, foul trailer with seven ponies and a mule. She is constantly chained except when giving rides or performing unnatural tricks. Her terrible skin condition remains unimproved and her diet is inadequate in both amount and nutrition. Equally appalling is the fact that Liebel’s mishandling of her presents a constant danger to Nosey and to the public.

Please click here to read more and send a quick e-mail about Nosey to the USDA.

Help bring the joys of plant-based eating to even more people. On (or around) March 20, thousands of caring people in all 50 U.S. states and two dozen other countries get active to host educational events for Meatout, the world's largest grassroots diet education campaign.

Activists will distribute free food, educate their communities, and ask their friends, families, and neighbors to "kick the meat habit” and explore a wholesome, compassionate diet of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Click here to learn more about the vegan diet.

Meatout 2011 aims to serve vegan food to over 10,000 veg-curious people including newcomers to veganism. Registration is open, there are already pledges to distribute vegan samples to over 5,000 people!

gray wolfWe Need Your Help To Protect Wolves

Attempts are now being made in the U.S. Congress to eliminate protection for endangered wolves. A few weeks ago, we asked you to contact your U.S. Senators - today we ask you to contact your U.S. Representative.

According to Defenders of Wildlife, only 42 Mexican gray wolves are left in the wild - in the entire world! They all live in Arizona and New Mexico. Congressman Denny Rehlberg is pushing two bills that, if passed, will be the first ever to exempt a single species from the Endangered Species Act. This could lead to all wolves being removed from the Southwest, Midwest, Greater Yellowstone, and the Northern Rockies. Please click here to send an e-mail to your U.S. Representative right now!
