| Join Our Fur Free Friday Virtual Demo From Your Computer Or Phone You're just a few clicks away from the world's biggest Fur Free Friday demo - in cyberspace! Compassionate people around the world are sending a clear message that wearing animal fur is cruel and unnecessary. Israel may soon become the first nation in the world to ban fur. In Bosnia, activists recently convinced a mink farmer to switch from fur farming to growing fruits and vegetables! In the U.S., IDA is gearing up for another season of grassroots education and outreach to encourage the Nordstrom family to stop selling fur in its upscale department stores. This year, everyone can help the estimated 50 million animals killed each year for their fur, no matter where you live, by participating in our first-ever Fur Free Friday virtual demonstration on Facebook and Twitter. It’s easy to do and a great way to spread the word that it’s time for Nordstrom to go Fur Free. IDA and the Sea Lion Defense Brigade have campaigned against the state-sanctioned sea lion killing for more than three years. “This is a huge victory for sea lions and salmon. We are relieved to see an end to the unethical, politically motivated killing of native, protected sea lions,” said IDA's Northwest Director Matt Rossell. “We hope these agencies will now address the human-caused threats to salmon recovery - over-fishing, introduction of non-native fish, dams and habitat destruction.” Since the lethal removal program began in 2008, IDA and the SLDB have worked to protect the sea lions in the Columbia River and hold agencies accountable to the public for this controversial program. Activists organized dozens of demonstrations, met with government officials, and rallied on the steps of the Oregon capital. IDA fought a court battle to free one sea lion named “Willy,” who was misidentified by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and wrongfully removed from the river. On Thursday November 18, Hope Animal Sanctuary Director Doll Stanley responded to a plea for help from Theresa, a Wyatt, Mississippi resident. Theresa was seeking assistance for an 86 year old neighbor, John, who had several unspayed female dogs with litters of puppies. John lives in the rusted-out shell of an old school bus and is barely able to take care of himself, let alone his ever-expanding pack of dogs, so experienced help was desperately needed. Situations like this are why IDA maintains our sanctuary in Mississippi. Seems that some are surprised that we'd defend the "lowly" halibut - after all, they tell us, they're "just fish." But somebody's got to speak up when anybody - even a potential U.S. leader - seems to enjoy inflicting pain on other creatures, as Sarah Palin does in her new TV show. This is not partisan politics - anybody who laughs while causing animals to suffer deserves the criticism. | | Still Time To Order Kids' Book Puppy School For Holiday Gifts!
