Dear Anne,
With the holiday season upon us, please accept my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your kindness, compassion and caring - for all that you do, and enable IDA to do for our animal friends. Without your generous support and passionate involvement, we would not have the resources to care for the many more animals who need our help during these challenging economic times.
IDA’s accomplishments this year include our dramatic and life-saving rescue of 55 monkeys left to starve to their deaths by a defunct laboratory; preventing the expansions of inhumane primate testing and breeding labs in Washington and Oregon; and putting a grinding halt to the cruel practice of bow hunting to kill hundreds of deer in New York.
And don’t forget our hands-on rescue of countless animals at our Hope Animal Sanctuary in Mississippi, in Haiti after the devastating earthquake, in India at our animal shelters, and for the orphaned chimpanzee and gorilla victims of the African bush meat trade - all testimony to your generosity and kindness.
Acknowledging our cost-effectiveness, we recently received the coveted 4-star rating from Charity Navigator. The following quote is from their letter to IDA: “IDA executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way, and outperforms most other charities in America. This “exceptional” designation from Charity Navigator differentiates IDA from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.” Despite the economy, you will see from our 2010 Victory and Highlights that your generosity has allowed us to work on many fronts, making 2010 another year of victories and precedent-setting accomplishments. In 2010, IDA intensified our work in the jungles of Africa, the streets of India, the dog and cat meat markets of South Korea, the waters off the coast of Japan, and U.S. laboratories, circuses, zoos, aquaria, and fur and factory farms. And we’ve been a constant presence on the western U.S. range, trying to stop the U.S. government from rounding up wild horses and condemning them to a lifetime of captivity. IDA continues to be a life-saving force for change through our daring animal rescues, spaying and neutering thousands of animals, and our international days of action against industries that harm, torture, maim and kill millions of innocent animals. But as our effectiveness grows, so does the determination of the animal abusers to fight for their “right” to exploit, mutilate, torture and kill—spending millions to convince the public that cruelty is not really cruelty; that their harming and killing is necessary for our entertainment, health, and survival. Your support is crucial to counter the lies. In these trying economic times, I am worried about our ability to keep all our vital campaigns, programs and sanctuaries going. There is less and less money coming in and there are more animals who need our help. With all we have accomplished for animals, there are so many more who need us. I know what a struggle it is for many of you, yet I have no choice but to ask for your renewed and unwavering support. Please remember the animals during this season of love and charity. Especially in these difficult times, please continue your support for our work - for the animals who so desperately need our help, by making a special year-end holiday gift today. Your kindness and that of thousands of other caring IDA members - the soul of IDA - turn the dreams, visions and efforts of the IDA staff into successful realities. When you review IDA’s 2010 Victories and Highlights, remember that it was your generosity that helped make all of it possible. You have been a true friend to animals and I know they can continue to count on you to help end the horrific pain and suffering so many of them are forced to endure. With all my heart, I thank you for your trust, generosity, compassion and caring. May the New Year bring us many victories - and for you and your loved ones, and all our animal friends, the very best that life can offer. Respectfully, and with the deepest of appreciation,
Elliot M. Katz, DVM IDA Founder and Chairman of the Board |
