| Fourth Of July Vegan BBQ Tips And Recipes IDA's own vegan queen Annie Judah-Shannon, creator of the legendary Betty Crocker Project (vegan versions of Betty's old recipes), brings us the best of her barbeque recipes, just in time for the Fourth of July. Family and community get-togethers are a great opportunity to introduce neighbors and loved ones to delicious vegan food. We're always on the lookout for recipes that "even meat-lovers will enjoy," and Annie's blog is the best place to start. There are a few tricks that can help, like marinating Tofurky Beer Brats in a dark beer with a dash of olive oil for 15 minutes before throwing them on a grill. If you don’t have a lot of time, try the classic Cheeseburger Pie and Three Bean Salad. Bakers can count on the crowd pleaser Peanut Butter Cake. If you want to really “Wow” someone, Vegan Crab Cakes are so good they will make even the meatiest eater think twice about what they thought it means to be vegan. And check out the Chipotle Roasted Corn! You can find all these recipes here. | | Fourth Of July Companion Animal Safety Tips The Fourth of July is so exciting we often forget to consider how the holiday may affect our companion animals. Fireworks and festive noises can be scary to animals. July 4th and 5th are the two days when the greatest number of lost dogs and cats are reported to animal shelters across the United States. Read these tips so you can keep your pets safe and sound. | | July 6 - International Day Of Action For South Korean Dogs From IDA President Scotlund Haisley's blog about the dogs of South Korea: "Imagine an elderly golden retriever behind the bars of a small cage; his warm brown eyes begging for your help. In the United States this dog would most likely be in a shelter waiting for his forever home, but the dog I speak of was condemned to a tortuous death in the South Korean meat market. Dogs just like those you and I cherish as members of our family are killed for their meat every day in South Korea. In Defense of Animals cannot turn away from the great need of these helpless beings." Please help IDA draw international attention to this issue by participating in our International Day of Action for South Korean Dogs on July 6. Dozens of cities around the world will host outreach events to educate their communities about this important issue. On June 27, the same magazine published a letter to the editor by IDA's Founder, Dr. Elliot Katz. IDA's letter, though edited by The Times, argued for recognition of people as "guardians" of their animal companions as opposed to "owners" of mere property, commodities, objects, or things. Click here to read the full letter and to learn more about IDA's groundbreaking Guardian Campaign. At that link you can also view IDA's new "Be A Guardian" music video. | | Procter & Gamble Acquires Natura And Loses Customers Last month, corporate giant Procter & Gamble acquired Natura Pet Products. This month, pet stores have started dropping Natura products to protest P&G's animal testing policy. Healthy Pets Northwest in Portland, Oregon is just one of these stores. Each Natura brand (including Innova, Evo, Healthwise, Karma, Mother Nature, and California Natural) is labeled as a P&G product - and offers the advice of an attendant about alternative products to replace them! Please ask your pet store about alternatives to Natura's products and let them know that it appears P&G is still conducting unnecessary tests on animals, including "nutritional studies" in which they test experimental food formulas on dogs and cats in their Ohio laboratory for their other pet food brands - IAMS and Eukanuba. | Project Hope Spay/Neuter Efforts Continue Mississippi State University's mobile spay/neuter clinic visited Project Hope again last Thursday. Five kittens were altered as well as 25 dogs. We were able to aid the Bolivar Cleveland Animal Shelter by neutering some of their dogs, and we spayed 3 dogs from the hoarder case we told you about last month. | | | | | This message was sent to sweetygirl2002@uol.com.br | | | | In Defense of Animals, located in San Rafael, Calif., is an international animal protection organization with more than 85,000 members and supporters dedicated to ending the abuse and exploitation of animals by protecting their rights and welfare.
