With two lucky winners announced each week of this Winter's Challenge, we're now able to help an even wider range of organizations that are making a difference for animals in need.
The Basenji Rescue and Transport of Texas won one such prize during the second week of the Challenge. They are an all-volunteer network of Basenji lovers, rescuing these "barkless" dogs from shelters around the country and finding them new homes as well as educating others about the challenges and joys of these clever pets.
Over the last 18 years, The Cat House on the Kings of Parlier, California, a week four winner, has saved over 18,000 cats--and 5,000 dogs, too!--as well as provided spaying and neutering services for 40,000 animals. They currently care for more than 700 cats and kittens!
Week seven brought us a whole new breed of winner with Pig Pals of NC in Durham, NC. They began in 1996 as a group of pig owners gathering together to discuss their porcine companions, but soon evolved into a nonprofit group dedicated to rescuing neglected or abandoned pot belly pigs. They also act as an educational resource for the public to learn about responsible ownership of these unique pets.
