The Ban On Commercial Whaling Might Soon Be Lifted - Unless You Act Today The International Whaling Commission (IWC) will vote in June on a proposal to overturn the global ban on commercial whaling signed by President Reagan in 1986. Countries like Japan, Norway and Iceland, who ignored the moratorium, stand to directly benefit. The proposal would: 1) overturn the global ban on commercial whaling and allow hunting in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary around Antarctica; 2) approve the killing of whales for commercial purposes by Japan around Antarctica and in the North Pacific; 3) add new rights for Japan to hunt whales in its coastal waters; 4) allow continued whaling by Iceland and Norway in violation of long-agreed scientific procedures and the global whaling ban. The countries responsible for the proposal include Australia, Germany, Iceland, Japan, and the United States. Two million dogs in South Korea are kept in tiny, filthy cages and killed in horrific ways. Eyewitnesses report dogs being torn apart while still alive. Following Shooting Of Deer, IDA Gives Oakland California Police Money For Tranquilizer Guns Following the controversial shooting of a deer in a residential neighborhood by an Oakland Police officer, IDA donated $1,500 so the city can purchase dart tranquilizer guns. A 2007 study found that women abused by their intimate partner were 10 times more likely to report that their partner had hurt or killed one or more of their pets than women who were not abused."
